We live in a time when we're becoming more and more responsible for our own health. Exercise and eating properly is a big part of healthy living, but monitoriing our health is equally important. Fortunately, monitoring your heart health with a home blood pressure monitor is more convenient and economical than it's ever been before.

Here's an overview:
The Digital - Or Electronic - Blood Pressure Monitor
These are convenient. They're contained in a single unit. This makes them easy to use. You don't have to deal with a stethoscope in one hand and a gauge in the other. Most are easily transportable. Cuffs can be designed for the arm or for the wrist. Arm cuffs are considered more accurate. The higher-end monitors will have automatick inflation and deflation, and even a heart-rate monitor built in. Lower-end monitors may require that you squeeze the bulb to inflate the cuff. It's recommended that you take several readings when using a digital blood pressure monitor since the results aren't always completely accurate.
The Finger Blood Pressure Monitor
As new needs become evident, technology steps up to meet them and that's the case with the finger blood pressure monitor. This is designed for those who are required to monitor their blood pressure on an ongoing basis. Instead of an arm or wrist cuff, it uses a finger cuff that inflates automatically. Though it's not as accurate as an arm monitor, it's convenient, portable, and light weight.
The Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor
Although not as accurage as an arm monitor, wrist blood pressure monitors are popular. They're easy to use, eliminate the hassle of rolling up your sleeve, and are generally reasonably priced. As they continue to develop the technology, wrist monitors will become more accurate and more attractive. For the time being, as with a finger monitor, it's best to take several readings to get the best overall picture of your blood pressure health.
The Pediatric Blood Pressure Monitor
Yes, they even have monitors for kids. Besides the obvious - they're designed with smaller cuffs - these monitors are also designed to alleviate the fears and anxiety that children may experience when having their blood pressure taken. Some models are colorful, some have animal figures, some have other arty patches that make the monitor a little less intimidating.
The Manual Blood Pressure Monitor
These are fairly basic monitors. They include the arm cuff, the stethoscope, the gauge, and the squeeze bulb. You've seen them at your doctor's office. They're very accurate, but bulky and a little more difficult to use unless you really know what you're doing.
